A Series of Sadness

A Series of Sadness is a two-part poetic and visual exploration rooted in Crestwood Park, a place I called Creek Park for years before learning its real name.
The project consists of two hand-bound books: Before I Knew Your Name and After I Knew Your Name. Each book blends original poetry with visual storytelling through cyanotype prints made from plant material gathered in the park itself. Before I Knew Your Name captures a sense of innocence and wonder, pairing handwritten poems and park imagery with themes of nature and memory.
In contrast, After I Knew Your Name shifts into emotional depth, exploring grief, suicide, and personal despair through carefully typeset poems and a more somber visual tone.
Both books share a consistent structure, alternating pages of paper and cyanotype fabric to create a tactile, reflective experience. Together, they offer a meditation on identity, place, and the evolving relationship between self and landscape.
